Life Legacy


Gerald Dean “Jerry” Baker, 78, of Ponderay, Idaho passed away after a short battle with cancer Wednesday August 14, 2013 at home surrounded by his family. Viewing for friends and family will be held from 3-5 pm on Friday, August 23, 2013 at the Lakeview Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints Sandpoint Stake Center, 602 Schweitzer Cut off road, with Bishop Rob Redford conducting. Visitation will be held in the Relief Society Room one hour prior to service time.

Jerry was born on November 20, 1934 in Chico, CA to Clarence and Wanda Baker. He grew up and attended schools in Chico, before serving in the National Guard. He served his career as a heavy equipment operator, and belonged to the Operating Engineers Local #3 in Chico. He retired to Sandpoint, ID in 1991.

He was an active member for over 40 years with the LDS church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, carving walking sticks, and stained glass. He was a sweet and gentle giant who had no enemies and greeted every stranger with open arms. He will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Patricia Baker of Ponderay; six children Scott Baker, Chris Baker and Mary Baker of Ponderay, Daniel Baker of Anchorage, AK, James Baker of Deltona, FL and Mike Baker of Chico, CA; 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Wanda Baker of Chico, CA, step-mom Hesper Baker of Chico, CA, and his sister Shari Bennett of Bellingham, WA.
