“Grandma” Iris Fern Hines, 87, passed away on Thursday, July 15, 2010 in Sandpoint, Idaho where she lived for 24 years.

She was born on September 17, 1922 in Red Deer, Alberta, one of twelve children born to Ora E. and Edna Pearl Veach. Iris crossed the Canadian boarder at age 2, however didn’t gain her citizenship until the early 1960’s after realizing she was not a US citizen.

Iris married Arthur Earl Hines on Christmas Eve, 1941 in Sacramento, CA. She was a homemaker and mother to five children. Iris attended Sacramento City College to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She worked at Sutter General Hospital for 17 years before retiring. She then moved to Sandpoint, ID in 1986 where she helped plan, build and live in her barn-style home.

Iris loved to read, garden, quilt, and enjoy a coup of hot tea while overlooking “the meadow”.

She is survived by her children: Arthur, Juanita, David and John as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur, eleven siblings; John, Harry, Robert, George, Mary, Elaine, Inez, Irene, Charles, Jean, Jerry; and daughter, Diana.

At her request, there will not be a funeral service. We would like to thank her dedicated caregivers Evergreen Assisted Living and Valley Vista Care Center for making her last years full and comfortable. “And He walks with me, and He talks with me, and He tells me I am His own; and the joy we share as we tarry there, None other has ever known.”
